This weekend the Official Journal of the European Union published the Decision taken by common agreement between the Representatives of the Governments of Member States of 18 June 2008 on the location of the seat of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT). This Decision, in relevant part, reads as follows:

  1. And great Hungarian innovation kat-astrophes must include Ernesto Rubik, the man who didn't patent the cube internationally. Hopefully the Institute will have learned the lessons of Rubik!

And, although, non-technolgical, don't miss "The Man Who Loved Only Numbers" aka Paul Erdõs.

  2. sometimes i end up in scratching all the hair from my head (i dont have much left there after i landed in IP) trying to decipher the decisions by lawmakers... hungary i do not believe a country where loads of R & D happens neither it appears in top 100 filers (forget 10) in world..... i guess it should have been germany, UK or france.....

  3. Maybe that is a good reason to have the EIT in Hungary...

The UK, Germany and France can't have everything - the rich would just get richer, in IP terms.
